Edosoft deployed GAIA platform with soil sensors for Environmental Monitoring
Edosoft Factory has signed a contract with Tragsa for the regional government (Environment Department of the Cabildo of Gran Canaria) to support the reforestation works by deploying 60 soil sensors nodes of the GAIA platform. This expensive work has been taken since the Gran Canaria fires of July and August of 2007, and require the mobilization of vehicles to supply irrigation water in the abrupt reforestation areas.
GAIA platform provides complete remote real-time water management by providing alerts depending of the parameters. Additionally, the platform allows to plan potential reforestation processes and protocols.
This project involves the deployment of a wireless sensor network (WSN) with the integration of high precision soil water sensors. The sensors have short and long range radio to communicate synchronously with the central server through the council network in Gran Canaria and asynchronously with a maintenance vehicle.
The system and its installation have minimal impact on the environment and additionally are portable for future reuse.
In addition, the GAIA platform is designed for real-time monitoring and long distance water quality, irrigation automation, control product quality and poor soil, wind speed and direction monitoring, as well as the duration and intensity of rainfall among others.
